The story: The lock was a knifemaker design patented lock that Buck obtained and put into production in several versions, this one, and also a long blade fillet knife. The knife is unlocked by pushing on the bottom of the tang. Once the knives were in the field, according to the late Buck salesman Vern Taylor, a call went into the main Buck office that the lock would unlock if hit hard on the tip, especially due to the leverage of the long fillet blade. Vern said he was in on the conference call and all the top people were in the room as Vern described how the knife would unlock if hit on the tip. "That can't be," a voice said. Thereafter he said he could hear a "click, click, click" as someone was hitting their knife on the tip. He said there was a long silence and then a very clear, "Oh shit." The knives were recalled soon thereafter. This is one of the knives not sent back. (How rare do they have to be for you?" (mmm87009) Minimum bid $100.00
